Running more than one business: how to keep them organised

Two businesses usually means two of everything: inboxes, customer lists, invoice numbering and logins. Here’s how to keep them separate without doubling the work.

Keep each business properly separate

Each business should have its own customers, branding, invoice numbering and bank details, especially if they’re separate limited companies. Mixing them causes problems with invoices, VAT and data protection.

But look at them together

You still need one view across them: which enquiries are waiting, what’s owed to you, and how each business is doing. Checking five systems every morning is how things get missed.

Share what should be shared

Your team may work across businesses. Give each person one login that sees the businesses they work in, and nothing they shouldn’t.

  • One login per person, not per business
  • Access to only the businesses they work in
  • A combined view for owners

Watch the costs

Per-user software gets expensive fast across several businesses: every person, in every business, paying again. Look for pricing per business, with everyone included.

Less juggling. More doing.

Bring one business across and see how it feels. If it isn’t better than what you have now, nothing’s lost.
